5 Tips for Keeping Healthy this Winter :: Five Little Homesteaders

Did you know it is almost the first day of spring?  Yep.  It is.  The first day of spring is March 20th.  However, I know many of you are still experiencing snow and freezing temperatures.  Lots of you are still stuck inside most of the day.  You may have been or may be getting sick.  This can be a really yucky time of year.  Spring is almost here but is just out of grasp.  So, like me, many of you are trying to stay healthy and feel good during these final wintery months.  One way I do that is by taking a natural probiotic –  but that’s not all!  To learn more read on.

5 Tips to Keep Healthy During the Winter Months

1. Exercise

This is probably a no brainer.  Your body needs exercise.  Even though it may be more difficult during winter months, make sure you are getting at least 15 minutes of exercise a day.

2. Eat a Healthy Diet

Food is your body’s fuel.  Make sure you are running it on the best fuel available.  Eating a diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables is essential to winter health.  Add in a few servings of lean meat, healthy fats, whole wheat grain and dairy to round out your diet.

3. Drink Plenty of Water

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water.  Our bodies are made up of about 75% water, so we need to make sure we are keeping it in fresh supply.  Most people should drink about eight 8oz glasses of water a day.  Winter weather can be especially drying, so make sure you are keeping your body hydrated.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Without sleep, your body is more vulnerable to illness.  That means that during the winter, more than ever, it is important to hit the pillow on time every night.  An average person needs about 6-8 hours of sleep per night.  (Ugh.  This is a great reminder for me.  How about you?)

5. Take Appropriate Supplements – Like a Natural Probiotic –

Even if you follow all of the tips I have listed above, you probably still need to boost your nutrition with supplements, especially during the winter months.

One supplement that I take everyday is an Insync natural probiotic.

It helps promote digestive system balance and just leaves me feeling better overall.  (Because let’s get real, if my “digestive system” is feeling pretty good each day, then the rest of me is usually feeling pretty good.)

While there are many different brands and varieties of probiotic on the market, I like the Insync brand because it:

  • is gradual release
  • contains 8 mg of doctor recommended B. Infantis
  • contains 6 different probiotic strains
  • has 3-billion live probiotic cells when manufactured
  • still has a minimum of 1-billion live probiotic cells when it is expired (now THAT’S impressive)

You’re convinced, right?  Want to know where to get it?  Well, I picked mine up at my local Walgreens.  In fact, here’s a picture of where I found it:

Yup. Right there with other digestive supplements and fiber products at your local Walgreens.

Still want more information?  Of course you do!
