Independence Days Challenge

Welcome to another installment of the Independence Days Challenge!  We hope you have brought some great posts to share with all of us this week.

What is the Independence Days Challenge?  Simply put, it’s a way for each of us to share the ways that we are building our independence inside our homes and on our land.  This is all about building community, skills and growing more self-sufficient!  We are here to teach and to learn.

Feel free to share your homesteading, gardening, homemaking, cooking, organizing, and/or skill-building posts via the link-up tool below.  Make sure you link back to one of the hosting blogs in some way and check out our other participants when you get a moment.

Each week  Heather – http://thehomesteadinghippy.com/  and I will pick a post from the previous week’s link-up to feature.

This week I’m featuring a post from Independence Farms – http://independencefarms.blogspot.com/ .   She linked up a great post about making gummy snacks – http://independencefarms.blogspot.com/2013/08/today-i-became-that-mom.html for her kids in the shape of legos and little lego men.  I’m so impressed!

Thanks to everyone who linked up.  It is always tough to choose just one to feature.

And without further ado, here’s what we’ve been up to on our homestead:

Plant Something:
Yup.  Planted a bunch of seeds this week.  The ones I had planted a week or so ago never sprouted thanks to a huge rain storm that did them in.  Oh well.

Harvest Something:
Cucumbers and eggs.

Preserve Something:
More applesauce and some apple butter.  Yum!

Waste Not:
Stuff to Goodwill and composting like crazy.

Eat the Food:
Eating the apples and eggs…. not much else going on right now.
Build Community Food Systems:
Working on a new article for the neighborhood newsletter and giving advice to others about their gardening.  Fun stuff!
Skill up:
Canned apple butter on my own for the first time!

Organize:
Nope. Maybe I should just take this one off the list 😉
