A peek inside my personal life….

Every Friday for the next few weeks I’m going to take some time to review different ebooks that I’ve had the pleasure of reading.  I’m hoping that sharing some of the information I’ve learned will help some of you out there.  If you come across a book you think I should read or review, please leave its title in the comments.

Though I am technically an “urban” homesteader and certainly not involved with the muck and dirt that afflicts “real” homesteaders, I feel like I am still a “real” homesteader at heart.

In part, that means that I don’t mind getting dirty to get the job done.  I keep my nails short because who has time for protecting a fancy manicure?  I would not consider most of my clothes sacred in any way (in fact most of them came from thrift stores!).  My shoes are constantly covered in dirt and a pedicure?  What’s that?

But every now and then….. every now and then I like to get a little dressed up.  Every now and then I take out a “nice” outfit and I might just blow dry my hair. Times like this usually come up if we have a wedding to go to or if we happen to have childcare for a (rare) date night.  And on those rare occasions where I choose to get a little, shall we say, fancy, I might just break out my make-up.  Here’s what the contents of my make-up bag pretty much look like.

Nothing fancy, right?  I don’t really think much about it and I certainly have never thought much about what is IN the make up I own but then I was introduced to Lori Klein’s new ebook “ Make Your Own Makeup: From Organic Food or Minerals – https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=237156&c=ib&aff=249672 .”  After reading Lori’s book, I began to think about make up and skin care products differently.

To begin, did you know that most make up contains a bunch of nasty ingredients?  I guess I had never thought about it.  To quote Lori,

If you look at the ingredients listed on the back of your makeup container, you will likely find a list of 10 to 20 ingredients you have never heard of. A few of the most toxic chemicals include: coal tar, formaldehyde, phthalates, petrolatum, parabens and fragrances.

She also states that exposure to these chemicals over time can lead to cancer and a host of other problems.  That was enough to convince me that she was onto something with her book – https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=237156&c=ib&aff=249672 .

In addition, like a lot of you who read this blog, I’m a DIYer.  I really like to figure out how to do as many things on my own as possible.  Milling grain, making lip balm, brewing up cleaners, these are all things I’ve done and written about on the blog.  So, this book – https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=237156&c=ib&aff=249672 is right up my (and your) alley!

Some of the recipes include:

  • Hibiscus Blush
  • Coffee Bronzer
  • Beet Lip Gloss
  • Coconut Moisturizer
  • Chocolate Eyeliner
  • and so, so many more.

In total, her book is 120 pages and includes more than 100 recipes for different types and shades of make up and skin care products that you can make yourself.  She has also included picture of the finished product to accompany every recipe.  It is truly a beautiful book.

But don’t just believe me.  Check out Lori’s book for yourself —>   here – https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=237156&c=ib&aff=249672 .

And as an added bonus, it is on sale right now for 50% off.  That means it is only 9.95 but the sale ends on September 30th.  So if you’re interested, get it now – https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?cl=237156&c=ib&aff=249672 .
