Review and Giveaway: Shaklee Basic H2

Today I’m bringing you a product review and giveaway.  Get excited.

Meet my new internet friend Sarah.  She writes a blog called  The House that Ag Built.

In addition to being a blogger and an adorable first grade teacher, Sarah is also an independent distributer for the Shaklee product line which includes eco-friendly household cleaners.  She contacted me about doing a review so that she could give her prospective buyers more information about using Shaklee products around the farm and garden.
Sarah sent me a bottle of the Basic H2 Cleaning Concentrate.  When they say this stuff is concentrated, they mean it.  You only need a 1/4 tsp in 16 ounces of water to make the all-purpose cleaning solution and only 1-2 DROPS to 16 ounces of water to make the window cleaner.  Amazing.
My favorite thing about Shaklee is their commitment to the environment.  I pulled this from their website:

(Shaklee’s) Get Clean products offer cleaning choices that are Green, and here’s why:

  • Sustainably sourced natural ingredients
  • Biodegradable surfactants
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Recyclable wipes
  • Recyclable dryer sheets
  • No chlorine bleach
  • No volatile organic cleaning compounds
  • No phosphates
  • No nitrates
  • No borates
  • No animal testing
So, I decided to give it a try.  I took it out to the garden and I mixed up a 1/4 tsp with 16 ounces of water in one of my garden spray bottles.  (Shaklee also sells pretty spray bottles that you can use and refill.)
I was impressed!  First of all, there was really no scent, which I thought was a great sign that the company’s claims about being natural are true.  Another thing I liked was that it didn’t get very “sudsy.”  Again, “sudsy-ness” is usually a sign of some sort of chemical additive.
One of the dirtiest things I have to clean around here on a regular basis are the chicken waterers.  The chickens sure don’t know how to take care of their things!  It’s like they’re farm animals or something.  😉  I pulled the waterer for our two older girls out of their coop and got to work.  It toook a little scrubbing but overall I was very happy with the results.
The other thing that has been bothering me lately is how dirty our four outdoor chairs have become.  I brought the Basic H2 all purpose cleaner over and got to work.  Again, I was very happy with the results.
Overall I think this is a great product.  It was easy to mix up and did a great job cleaning up the messes. I also think it is an incredibly economical choice since the 16 ounce bottle that you buy will make 48 GALLONS of cleaner.  Amazing.  While I do love the all-purpose cleaner I make at home now, a product like this is great to keep on hand for when I run out of the homemade stuff or if I just want to change it up a little.
Sarah has been gracious enough to offer up 5 samples of the H2 basic cleaner to one lucky reader.  These five samples will make 80 ounces of all purpose cleaner and 80 ounces of window cleaner.  With numbers like that, the winner won’t be hitting up the cleaning aisle any time soon.  You can also head on over to her sales page to buy it now and to see the other products that Shaklee offers.
The entry period beings today, August 12th, and ends Sunday, August 18th.  There are three entry opportunities each worth equal points.  You may complete all three entries (for three chances to win) or just the ones that you want.  Completely up to you.
