Sponsor Highlight: This Original Organic Life

I have started accepting sponsors on this little website.  I’m excited to be pairing up with some blogs and business that I believe in and that I think provide a good message/product.  If you know someone who you think would be a good match for us here at Five Little Homesteaders, be sure to send them our way.  Additionally, when you have a moment, be sure to check our sponsors out.  I assure you, they are worth your time.

We haven’t done one of these in a while but this week, I’m excited to bring you the blog This Original Organic Life written by Rachel.

Me:  How would you describe your blog?

Rachel:  In three words (or more), my blog is about homesteading, hand-making, and healthy living. I share whole foods recipes, DIY projects, sustainable gardening tips, and try to use my original photography as much as possible.

The common thread that sews my blog together when it can seem a little hodge podge with all my varying interests is health & well being – both for humans and the environment. I am passionate about bringing awareness of & accessibility to a healthy lifestyle grounded in eating well, exercising, spiritual well being, and living simply. I am equally passionate about sharing the joy that can come from caring for the earth and treading more lightly upon it through implementing some of the projects and practices I share in my blog.

Human health inevitably flows from environmental health – from the food we eat, to the air we breath, even to our surroundings and living conditions – it is all inextricably connected. While this can all sound pretty esoteric, I really believe it’s just practical to be mindful of what we put out into the world as it ultimately becomes what we consume.

My blog is about showing how creation and consumption can be healthy, easy, fun, and affordable. Living a healthy lifestyle is only hard if we don’t have the tools – so I’m all about sharing the tools!

Me: Why do you blog?

Rachel:  I blog because it helps me put the ideas and creativity that are swirling in my head into something tangible.

I blog because it encourages me to try new things and live more into my mission of a simple, healthy lifestyle. It makes me really have to practice what I preach since I’m documenting my experiences and experiments through photography and then telling the story on my blog. I love how blogging makes me actually do the things that I say I’m going to do, and it makes me do it well! It’s great to have a place to share my love of photography incorporated into my projects.

I blog to share and open up awareness to how doing more things from scratch, eating well, growing your own food, and cutting back on consumption can be extremely rewarding.

I blog to demystify the organic and homesteading movement that can seem so daunting for many. I recently wrote a post, 5 Easy Tips to Start Homesteading, that might be a good place to start for many.

Oh, and I blog because it’s actually pretty fun!

Me:  What is one thing that you would want your readers to know about you?

Rachel:  I sometimes eat Jimmy John’s subs and use plastic bags. I feel like it’s pretty important for people to know that I’m not perfect and that every step toward living a healthier lifestyle is a positive one – even if the next day we take three steps back.

On an unrelated note, I’m excited to share that pretty soon I’ll be incorporating posts on yoga into my blog. I am in training to become a yoga instructor, which I will officially be done with next month! Yay! It’s a piece of this “health” puzzle that is very important for me in my own way of living, and I’d love to share it with others.

I have an Etsy shop (www.originalorganics.etsy.com) where I sell handmade, eco-friendly jewelry, so that’s pretty fun too.

The fourth thing (of the one thing I was supposed to share) is that I can be long-winded, which is why I try to stick to straightforward steps-based projects in my blog, otherwise I would go on and on
